There is one currency – Super Credits – which can be bought with real money, but developer Arrowhead Game Studios has insisted that the stuff this buys (mostly body armour and helmets) isn’t necessary for progression, and you can earn Super Credits in the game anyway. I’ve certainly not felt the need to buy anything while levelling up over many, many hours of play.
They are a fast-evolving plague, a shapeshifting infestation that threatens to devour and disenfranchise every single child on every single planet. Scavenger
Helldivers 2 lets you play as an elite soldier among the Helldivers, the greatest military force the galaxy has ever seen. Join the fight for freedom as you eliminate monsters who threaten the peace.
There’s really not much to explain upfront. It’s the future, and Earth – now known as Super Earth – considers itself under threat from alien monsters on distant planets – planets that just happen to be rich in mineral deposits. You start out with a basic spaceship and a rudimentary warrior, then you select a world to visit and a mission to undertake, then touchdown on the surface to begin educating the locals in the joys of militarised democracy.
Given that the original Helldivers from 2015 is still exclusive, though, we don't suggest getting your hopes up.
Work your way up to the more difficult missions. If you try them right at the beginning, you'll probably fail. Be sure to unlock more weapons and stratagems before you make the leap to challenging difficulty levels.
Since Helldivers 2 lets you play with up to four players, many are curious if the game scales combat difficulty up or down depending on how many you have in your squad.

The Automatons are fully mechanized soldiers of a kind never seen before. But their emblem is eerily familiar …
Helldivers 2 is a sci-fi third-person co-op PvE shooter published by PlayStation Studios and developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. In it, players are put into the shoes of a "Helldiver" — a heavily armed and armored space marine that fights to defend humanity and "Super Earth" from extra-terrestrial threats such as alien bugs called Terminids or a race of technologically advanced and militaristic robots called the Automatons.
While Helldivers 2 strongly encourages playing with friends and even comes with a built-in code-based friends list, it also has a quickplay matchmaking option that helps random players quickly squad up.
Live service games have become increasingly common in the last several years, and are categorized by consistent post-launch updates, evolving gameplay scenarios, and some form of long-form monetization like microtransaction currencies you can buy with real money to then spend on exclusive items.
It's still a tense, communication-based game, but it feels designed to generate memorable gameplay - and I think it succeeds. Both the PS5 and PC versions of Helldivers 2 provide a good experience, and the game is attractive enough for a large-scale multiplayer shooter. I would like to see some additional features on PC though: temporal upsamplers are a must-have in my opinion, and frame generation would be great as well. The 1080p resolution on PS5 in performance mode is bound to be a source of controversy too, but I think it's a sensible trade-off Helldivers 2 Gameplay given how taxing this game can be. Perhaps experimentation with FSR 2 might yield decent results, especially considering the unimpressive quality of the existing TAA, but this is a tough game to run at high resolutions. So Helldivers 2 is a compelling multiplayer package, and it's technically sound as well. Players looking for a fresh co-op experience are unlikely to be disappointed.
Experiment with different weapons. A shotgun might not sound effective for certain enemies, but a shotgun with a nice range upgrade is a different story.
